Using a weighted blanket is quite a different experience than we’re accustomed to, so it may feel unusual the first time your new blanket. Most people fall in love right away but, for some, it can take 2-3 weeks.

If your blanket has a cover . . . Unlike doona/duvet covers, the covers for our weighted blankets have little ties on the inside to prevent bunching in the middle.

Unzip your cover and turn it inside out, then feed the ties through the small loops on the corners and the sides of the blanket.

It’s easiest if you start at the end furthest from the opening of the cover and work your way back, turning the cover right-side-out as you go.

Wash the cover and the blanket separately. Before loading your blanket into the washer, check how much weight your washing machine can take, for most washing machines it is 7kg.

If your blanket is less than the weight limit, use the ‘delicates’ or ‘gentle’ setting. Heavier blankets will need to be handwashed. We advise against using fabric softener for Sherpa blankets.

Lay your blanket flat on a drying rack. We don’t recommend putting weighted blankets in the dryer. Make sure the blanket is completely dry before using it again.

Most stains shouldn’t be a hassle to remove and it’s much easier to clean them as soon as they happen. For smaller stains, run the area you want to clean under cold water, gently rub it with a cloth or sponge and then apply a mild detergent and rinse it off.
